Devotion for February 17, 2022 - Fixated

Fixated

I was walking by a couple guys playing Battleship at the Windber New Day this past week and witnessed this. The one individual became fixated on one spot and continued guessing the same spot, much to the amusement of all of us watching.

I speculated that he figured if the hole was deep enough then it would sink the whole ship . . . which, while true in real life, does not work in the board game. Ironically, this also is a plan Satan uses on us - he doesn't need to find a new temptation point if the one he had been using continues to work.

One of the keys to victory for Christians is to figure out WHERE Satan is tempting and establish fortifications there. The enemy will continue to come in the window as long as the window is open (incidentally, mosquitoes work the same way!). Identifying the spot is the first step, but the next step is finding victory over the temptation in that spot. When Jesus was tempted (Matthew 4), he quoted scripture which is something I recommend as well. We also can benefit from accountability to help us know others care about us and the struggle that is real (Proverbs 27:4-5). Finally, it is also important to make sure to alert others as to the dangers of that temptation and glorify God through the victory he provides.

God has great plans and Satan will do whatever possible to keep us from the victory that has already been won on the cross. Remember John 10:10 says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

Live victorious today!
